THE WEEKND RELEASES NEW SONG ‘POPULAR’ FEAT. MADONNA AND PLAYBOI CARTI

The Weeknd previewed the song at the red carpet premiere of the show in Cannes and fans were very excited for the song called ‘Popular.’ Over the course of the song, The Weeknd is likely alluding to Jocelyn, a fictional pop star on The Idol played by Lily- Rose Depp. Carti and Madonna garnish the song with hypnotic ad libs and harmonies. The new show The Idol will premiere on HBO, starring himself, Lily-Rose Depp and more. The song joins the soundtrack’s Future assisted lead single “Double Fantasy,” which The Weeknd first performed during Metro Boomin’s Coachella set before officially releasing it on April 21. The song peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. ‘Popular’ marks the first time The Weeknd has worked with Madonna and Carti, and also marks both Madonna and Curtis first musical releases of 2023.
